There are some people that have become famous Internet entrepreneurs. Because of their ingenuity, imagination, tenacity, and fortitude, they have made the Internet what it is today.
Jeff Bezos was born in 1964. Jeff developed a love for computers and graduated from Princeton University with a degree in computer science and electrical engineering. While working for a company that specialized in the application of computer science to the stock market, Bezos noticed that people using the Internet were increasing by 2300 percent a year. He also noticed that there was not a mail order catalog on the Internet for books. Jeff's employers didn't care for the idea so Bezos went into business for himself. In a two bedroom house in Seattle, Jeff Bezos started his company called Amazon and within 30 days, Amazon.com had sold books in all 50 states and 45 foreign countries with nothing but word of mouth advertising.
Sergey Brin and Larry Page both attended Stanford University. While they disagreed on most subjects, they found that the topic of retrieving information from large data sets was of common interest to them. They began working together on a project of their shared interest and when they failed to sell the idea, they went into business for themselves. In 1998, they opened Google Inc. in California and the business grew so quickly that the company was forced to make several relocations due to lack of space.
The Internet is full of opportunities for enterprising entrepreneurs. While its past is full of both stunning successes and occasional failures, its riches are there to be pursued for those with creativity, drive, and perseverance.
