Patrick Carlton was the Chief Economist to Overseas Private Investment Corporation at the time it was established in 1971. Known as OPIC, it was established as an agency of the federal government. Carlson is now the Senior International Economist at Overseas Private Investment Corporation. They help U.S. businesses invest overseas, and help economic development in new markets. They help manage risks for the private sector in their foreign investments. They support U.S. foreign policy.

OPIC's political risk insurance helps U.S. business invest in developing nations across the world. They also help in financing. Not only do they help the American companies by increasing their exports, the project helps the foreign country hire workers, which gives them self esteem as well as a means for supporting their families. This has created over 830,000 jobs in countries where there was almost no hope.

In the 38 year history, OPIC has supported $188 billion worth of investments. It has also generated $72 billion in U.S. exports and help create 273,000 U.S. jobs. They currently have 174 employees. Patrick Kennedy is an Associate.
