Internet Entrepreneurs Stories

The Internet has changed so much of what goes on in society and the way we conduct our businesses in general. There are many people who have either joined an existing Internet business or started their own and made a bundle of money. The following are just two such examples.

Larry Page became interested in computers at age six. His parents were Jewish and academically progressive computer scientists. He was allowed to play with all the computer “stuff” his parents had around the house.

He went through the unconventional Montessori school system as a child, and after many years, attended Stanford University and enrolled in the Ph.D. program in computer science. His dissertation centered upon how to count and qualify each backlink on the Web to give it a more valuable web placement. The idea intrigued Sergey Brin, who ended up partnering up with Page to develop the PageRank algorithm. This led eventually to the development of the most powerful search engine we know as Google and making Page a multi-billionaire.

Ariana Huffington ran in 2003 as an independent candidate for governor of California. She is also, according to Technorati, co-founder of the top blog of the world called Huffington Post. She has been nicknamed queen of the blogosphere. Forbes named her No. 12 in the first ever list of the Most Influential Women in Media in 2009.

Huffington Post, which launched just two years ago, attracts more than 800,000 visitors a month. It’s a combination of original reporting, investigative pieces and videos that include an A-list of opinion makers. It is soon to add a satirical site. With the funding that comes in and advertising which includes pitching her books, Huffington makes millions per year.
