Peter Hillary is one half of the great "Hillary" father and son mountain climbing team. Peter and his father Sir Edmund were the first father-son team to make it to the top of Mount Everest. Peter began climbing at the tender age of eleven. Peter and his father would climb roped together.
Peter and his father scaled Mount Fog in New Zealand's Southern Alps. Peter has lead expeditions to the mountains in the Asia-Pacific Region, the Himalayan Range, and Pakistan. The mountain of Everest has sent out the call to Peter five times, beginning in 1990 when he and his father climbed to the summit of the great mountain. Peter was part of the 2002 National Geographic Society's expedition that marked the 50th anniversary of his father Sir Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tening Norgay's historic first climb in 1953.
Mountain climbing is just a fraction of the adventures Peter Hillary has accomplished. Among Peter's many talents is the profession of public speaking, writing, and designing of specialty outdoor equipment. If you need a guide or travel operator into the Himalayas or the Antarctic, Peter Hillary is your man. Peter holds a commercial license for the fixed wing aircraft.
Fundraising for the love of his life, his father's Himalayan Trust takes up most of Peter's time. Peter also supports several other trusts related to mountain climbing. Peter has spoken at over 300 high profile organizations; he has appeared on several television shows. The New York Times and the Sydney Morning Herald have published his articles. Peter Hillary, his wife, and two of his children make their home in Epsom, Auckland.
