Larry Page

Have you ever told someone to “Google this?” Chances are, you use the Google search engine quite regularly, but have you ever thought about who founded this useful tool? Larry Page is the president and founder of Google Inc., and he also happens to be one of the richest people in the internet world.

Page was born during the year 1973 in Lansing, Michigan. Not surprisingly, Page’s parents are both involved in the computer science field. After graduating from the University of Michigan, Page decided to study for his Masters degree at Stanford University. Unbeknownst to Page, a fellow classmate (that he did not like upon first meeting) would become his future business partner. Along with Sergey Brin, Page developed a paper that gained quite a bit of press called “The Anatomy of a Large-Scale Hypertextual Web Search Engine.” The two began to create a business model for their new web search venture, and they managed to gain over $1 million dollars in start up investments. Once the idea was turned into the Google search engine that it is today, the company took off dramatically and Page is now the 27th richest person in the world.

Page was recently named a World Economic Forum Global Leader for Tomorrow and he is also a member of the National Advisory Committee for the University of Michigan College of Engineering. Page is a prime example of what can happen with a bit of knowledge and a lot of determination. From the start, Page had an idea that he created on paper, and he was able to turn this idea into a billion dollar company. Incidentally, Page’s original paper is now available through the University of Stanford library -- just in case you want to learn the recipe for success.
